Synthesis of heavily substituted 2-aminopyridines by displacement of a 6-methylsulfinyl group

The displacement of a methylsulfinyl group from the 6-position of the pyridine ring is used to explain the characteristics of 2-aminopyridines with a variety of polar 6-substituents. The synthesis of 6-thiomethyl pyridines from reaction of 2-(l-phenylethylidene)propanedinitriles with dimethyl N-cyanodithiominocarbonate is also described.
