Abstract

A novel catalytic system is described for the aerobic oxidation of primary and secondary alcohols. A new mechanism is presented for the Ir-catalyzed aerobic oxidation that has shown that the transition metal has maintained its (+3) oxidation state throughout the entire catalytic cycle.
