Interaction of apo E-containing lipoproteins with the LDL receptor-related protein LRP

Cultured mouse peritoneal macrophages (MPMs) and rabbit Hep G2 cells were analyzed to determine the properties of beta-migrating very low density lipoprotein (beta-VLDL) and activated alpha2-macroglobulin (alpha2-M*). Double-labeling experiments of beta-VLDL subfractions indicated presence of similar binding sites between beta-VLDL and alpha2-M* in MPMs and Hep G2 cells. The binding properties of beta-VLDL to low-density lipoprotein receptor-related proteins were also dependent on the concentrations of apolipoprotein E.
