Polyphosphorylated triphenylenes: synthesis, crystal structure, and selective catechol recognition

Abstract
- The synthesis and x-ray structure characterization of a newly designed receptor, Discopus from triphenylene core surrounded by six (diaryl)phosphinate groups is reported. The results from molecular dynamics simulations and recognition experiments provide insights into the stronger hydrogen bond assisted by a [pi]-interaction between the Discopus core and one catechol molecule that exist within the 1:2 (host:guest) complex.
