Abstract
- A system identification technique involving sympathetic and vagal stimulation was utilized to determine the dynamic interactions of heart rate regulation under conditions of combined sympathetic and vagal stimulation. Heart rate response was enhanced by the simultaneous stimulation of sympathetic and vagal nerves. Furthermore, the bidirectional augmentation of heart rate response under conditions of simultaneous dynamic stimulation of sympathetic and vagal systems was independent of the patterns of input signals.
