Once again, approval of Chretien tops 50%

A Gallup survey conducted June 11-16, 1997 found that 54% of Canadians surveyed approved of Prime Minister Jean Chretien. This approval rating is up 10% from February and 4% from immediately prior to the election. Regional analyses found 38% of Quebec residents and 34% of French-speakers approved of Chretien, much less than the strong majority support he received from elsewhere in Canada and from English-speaking Canadians.
