Abstract

Researchers have identified a novel secreted glycoprotein that regulates bone resorption. The protein, designated Osteoprotegerin (OPG), belongs to the TNF receptor superfamily. The findings suggest that OPG can function as a soluble factor in bone mass regulation. The results also imply that potential importance of OPG in the treatment of osteoporosis associated with increased osteoclast activity.
