Abstract

News about the successful cloning of a sheep by scientists in Scotland renewed interest in the cloning of cattle. Scientists at the University of Arkansas are finding ways by which cattle can be cloned with embryos as well as with the DNA single cell method that was used in Scotland. One problem being encountered in cattle cloning is the low survival rate of cloned calves and their surrogate mothers. Cloned calves, which usually weigh 150-200 lb. at birth, are much heavier than calves produced by the usual breeding methods.
