Abstract
- A Marxist analysis of Holland as a model nation of 17th-century capitalism is presented. Although Marx and Engels did mention the rise and fall of Dutch merchant capitalism in their writings, they only provided a cursory look at the significance of the Dutch Revolt against Spain. The debate on the nature of the Dutch Revolt among Marxist historians is discussed.
