Help wanted

The education and training of economic geologists should be modified to adopt a field-oriented approach that will allow geologists to cope with the demands of the job market. The demand for geologists in the international mining industry has increased in 1997 due to a mining boom in developing countries from Latin America and Southeast Asia. Highly trained and experienced geologists worldwide also receive substantial financial compensation. Furthermore, universities and colleges should orient geology students to modern technologies that are required for geological research.
