Abstract

The interactions of R2AlX with monodentate bases were analyzed to characterize the factors affecting the formation of alkylaluminum cations. The formation of R2AlX.base neutral adducts and cationic complexes from the reaction of the monodentate bases with R2AlX were dependent on the nature of the monodentate base such as primary amines and phosphine oxide. The resulting cationic complexes were also derived from the dissociation of the Al-X bond.
