Abstract

A study was conducted on two glnB-like genes, which have been isolated from Herbaspirillum seropedicae by complementing it with the Klebsiella pneumoniae glnB502. One of these glnB-like genes was sequenced and its role in the regulation of nif gene expression was examined. Results show that glnB mutation neither affected the glutamine synthetase activity nor the activity control in H. seropedicae. Moreover, the H. seropedicae glnB gene functions similarly to the glnB gene of Azospirillum brasilensem in terms of signalling nitrogen limitation to the NifA protein.
