Abstract

A Gallup survey conducted Jan 16-21, 1997, found that support for Prime Minister Jean Chretien fell to 49% from 53% last month. Thirty-three percent do not support Chretien, while 19% remain undecided. In Quebec, approval rates continue to be the lowest (29%). In other regions, Chretien garners marginally higher approval rates than disapproval rates. Francophone Canadians are the least approving group with a rate of 29% compared to 57% of anglophones and 49% of allophones.
