Liberal support rises to 59% in October

A Gallup survey conducted from Sep 30 to Oct 5, 1996, found 59% of decided Canadians support Jean Chretien's Liberal Party, up from 50% one month ago. This is the highest level of support the Liberals have received during the past year. The highest levels of support for Liberals come from Ontario (68%) and Atlantic Canada (65%). The Progressive Conservatives are in second place with a 16% rate of support from decided Canadians, 43 percentage points less than the Liberals.
