Abstract

A Gallup survey conducted from Sep 30 to Oct 5, 1996, found 36% of Canadians consider the federal government to be doing an effective job with the nation's finances, compared to 52% who feel the government is not managing the national economy well. Thirty-five percent of Canadians have either considerable or some confidence in the government's handling of unemployment, compared to 23% who do not. Forty percent of Canadians have either considerable or some confidence in the government's deficit reduction ability, compared to 22% who do not.
