Abstract
- The molecule salicyloyl cyclic phosphate temporarily inhibits the class C beta-lactamase of Enterobacter cloacae P99, the class A TEM beta-lactamase, and also the DD-peptidase of Streptomyces R61. This was gleaned from an examination of the structure and properties of the molecule, wherein it was designed as a 'penicillin-like' inhibitor of beta-lactamases. The cyclic phosphate is the first member of a new class of molecules that can interact with beta-lactam recognizing enzymes to produce inert complexes.
