Abstract: A study of x-ray magnetic circular dichroism, resonant inelastic x-ray scattering and x-ray resonant magnetic scattering at the L(sub2,3) edges of Nd on Nd(sub2)Fe(sub14)B has been undertaken. A dipolar or quadrupolar origin can be assigned to different features observed in the experimental spectra, and the thermal dependence of the Nd moment orientation under the spin reorientation transition can be studied.
