Differential transmission of the genospecies of Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato by game birds and small rodents in England

Research was conducted to examine the genetic diversity of Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato found in southern Britain. The PCR method was used for a more accurate assessment of the diversity and distribution of borreliae in nature. Results suggest that B burgdorferi sensu lato can be maintained in nature through the use of distinct transmission cycles with the same vector tick species but having different vertebrate host species.
