Abstract
- Cookery programmes have become a key element of television scheduling in the UK. The first celebrity television cook was Fanny Cradock, who appeared on many programmes on both ITV and BBC for many years. Today, the most popular television cooks are Delia Smith, Gary Rhodes, Madhur Jaffrey and Ken Hom, among others. Broadcasters favour cookery programmes because they are very inexpensive to produce and offer considerable potential for related merchandising.
