Abstract

Research was conducted to examine the metal sensor properties of porphyrazines and norphthalocyanines possessing nitrogen donor pockets. The preparation of amino-functionalized porphyrazines and norphthalocyanines was done using Linstead macrocyclization reactions of dinitrile precursors and were subsequently subjected to UV-vis titrations in the presence of inorganic ions. Results indicate that porphyrazines and the norphthalocyanines can bind inorganic metal ions to the peripheral ligating functionality with substantial changes in the UV-vis spectra.
