Abstract

Top executives of the Top 200 environmental firms attribute their success to the booming American economy, which allowed many businesses to prioritize environmental concerns along with other top corporate concerns. The top 200 firms posted an aggregate $24.1 bil in revenues in 1997, with hazardous waste cleanup and water and wastewater treatment business accounting for 38% of the total revenue. The two sectors also account for the large international accounts of the environmental firms, amounting to revenues of $5 bil from $3.4 bil in 1996.
