PbTi[O.sub.3] Nanofibers with edge-shared Ti[O.sub.6] octahedral

A new tetragonal phase of PbTi[O.sub.3] is described, in which each Ti[O.sub.6] octahedron pair has shared an edge and has stacked over following pairs in an interlaced manner to form a one-dimensional (1D) columned structure along the c-axis. The new tetragonal phase of PbTi[O.sub.3] is transformed into a normal perovskite phase in air at elevated temperature.
