One-step conversion of azine N-oxides to [alpha]-1,2,4-triazolo-, 1,2,3-triazolo, imidazolo-, and pyrazoloheteroarenes

Transformation of pyridine, quinoline, isoquinoline, azaindole, and pyrimidine N-oxides to their [alpha]-triazole and [alpha]-diazole derivatives is reported. The process involved reaction between the corresponding p-toluenesulfonylazoles and Hunig's base at high temperatures.
