Abstract
- Spilled oil slick resulting from the April 2010 explosion of the British Petroleum's exploration rig could be remedied by hydrocarbon-digesting marine bacteria. These bacteria include Alcanivorax and Cyclopclaticus, which are equipped with oxygen to metabolize alkanes. On the other hand, potential risks that these microbes might pose to the ecosystem at the Gulf of Mexico are highlighted.
