Intercity relations and globalisation: the evolution of the global urban hierarchy, 1981-2007

The city explores ways in which the world city system is changing in the context of globalization, using data on the locations of the world's 500 largest multinational companies. Evidence suggests that the world city system is undergoing significant restructuring in ways that concentrate power in a few cities, but does not support the notion that globalization is creating a geography of inequality in intercity relations.
