Influence of soil characteristics on the diversity of bacteria in the Southern Brazilian Atlantic forest

Abstract: Sixteen S rRNA gene sequencing is used to analyze the bacterial biodiversity in the Southern Brazilian Atlantic Forest ecosystem. The bacterial diversity is found to be influenced by factors such as altitude, [Ca.sup.2+]/[Mg.sup.2+] ratio, and [Al.sup.3+] phosphorus content while pH had no significant impact on diversity.
