Abstract

Many publishers welcome the advent of 'talking books,' books read aloud and recorded on cassette tapes. Talking books account for 10% of sales for bookstores which carry them. According to Books on Tape Inc. of California, the tapes' manufacturer, contemporary titles sell best. A popular title can sell up to 20,000 cassettes.
