Abstract

Position-control devices are governed by the strict demands of robotic, computer, medical, and other maximum performance electronic-equipment applications. The manufacturers of digital optical encoders are providing smaller components under various guises to improve implementation and use in order to meet user needs. Also, many of the optical encoders now sold are not as expensive as their predecessors. An incremental encoder is a basic component that will produce a repeated signal for equal increments of shaft angle. Sequential Information, Disc Instruments, and Data Technology all sell encoders that are completely assembled.
