Abstract

The US Navy is considering new generation of penetrator warheads to boost firepower of its current crop of air- and sea-launched missiles. Fitting the Tomahawk land attack missile or Conventional Air-Launched Cruise Missile (Calcm) with the new bunker-busting warheads will significantly broaden the missiles' role as a strategic-range weapon. The new warheads could offer improved performance than the Air Force's 2,000-lb. air-dropped penetrator bomb, but not greater than the GBU-37 penetrator weapon. Candidate warheads include the British Aerospace's Lancer Broach and Lockheed Martin's Advanced Unitary Penetrator.
