Restrictive use of detergents in the functional reconstitution of the secondary multidrug transporter LmrP

A study was conducted to analyze the use of detergents in the functional reconstitution of the secondary multidrug transporter LmrP in Lactococcus lactis. A unique protein expression system for cytotoxic proteins was utilized to carry out the analysis. Experimental results indicated that LmrP is capable of mediating drug transport without the need for accessory proteins or cytosolic components.
