Abstract
- Domestic violence has significant psychological effects on Australian women. Those reporting intimate adult abuse have higher rates of anxiety, phobias, depression, harmful levels of alcohol consumption and psychoactive drug dependence than those without experiencing abuse. The highest rates of psychological effects were from women experiencing abuse as children and adults. One third of all psychiatric diagnoses in this study were produced by family violence.
