Emerging market borrowers start to return

The developing countries are showing signs of recovery from the economic crisis which hit them in mid-1997. Indications of life can be seen in the energy-related finance sector. In Latin America, several oil receivables securitizations have occurred, which was met with enthusiasm by investors. These deals were interesting because much of the risk was transferred outside of the countries of the borrowers, such as Brazil and Mexico.
