Abstract

The influence of diastereomeric interactions in the synthesis and structure of asymmetric bis(sulfonamide) based copper(II) complexes has been studied. Copper(II) forms complexes with square planar geometries but coordinate weakly with one or two additional ligands. Results indicate that the stability of the copper(II) complexes weakens the bridging interactions and restricts association in solution at room temperature. However, catalysts made of bis(sulfonamide)bis(pyridyl) ligands can be made to exhibit asymmetric amplification through ligand modification or by using a Lewis acidic metal.
