Abstract

A new large bore 10 T @4.5 K Nb3Sn model is under the development stage in the Netherlands following the successful operation of the 11 T Nb3Sn experimental dipole magnet MSUT. An innovative 'powder in tube' type of Nb3Sn conductor with an increased number of filaments was developed by ShapeMetal Innovation for application in the system. The diameter of the filaments was reduced to about 20 microns after reacting for only 33 hours at 675 degrees C. The strand diameter used was 0.9 mm.
