CREB: a stimulus-induced transcription factor activated by a diverse array of extracellular signals

CRE-binding protein (CREB) are phosphorylated, in turn activating target gene transcription by several protein kinases. The mechanism by which CREB activates transcription depends on the stimulus, with different signaling pathways giving specificity at the level of activation.
