Abstract

Identification of Bacillus thuringiensis delta endotoxin Cry1C domain III amino acid residues is discussed as related to insect specificity. The residues of this domain are involved in specificity for beet armyworm, Spodoptera exigua. Findings showed groups of amino acids and some individual residues in Cry1C domain II strongly involved in S. exigua-specific activity and sometimes involved in Manduca sexta (tobacco hornworm)-specific activity.
