Abstract: Elevated levels of interleukin-6 in umbilical cord blood may indicate an increased risk of bronchopulmonary dysplasia in premature babies. Premature babies are at risk for this lung disease and the finding of increased interleukin-6 levels in a study of 203 babies indicates the disease follows an inflammatory response.
