History of mercury loading in the Upper Mississippi River reconstructured from the sediments of Lake Pepin

An analysis of the mercury loading in Lake Pepin, which is located on the Upper Mississippi River, can help described how the river has been managed over a number of years. In fact, the analysis showed that the implementation of pollution control efforts since about 1970 has had a pronounced effect on the amount of mercury accumulation in the sediment at Lake Pepin.
