Abstract: Research was conducted on a population of Streptococcus pneumoniae to understand infectivity and serotype stability. The data from multilocus restriction typing analysis indicate that frequency and invasiveness of pneumococci are linked, and serotype switching was exhibited among 14% of restriction types analyzed.
