The mobility of an HIV-1 integrase active site loop is correlated with catalytic activity

Research was conducted to examine the importance of a loop structure near the active site of HIV-1 integrase by protein engineering and crystallographic analyses. Amino acid substitution resulted in mutants exhibiting impaired catalysis with the catalytic activity directly related to the degree of conformational flexibility.
