Abstract

Precursor 16S rRNAs of Acinetobacter spp. in activated sludge waste-water treatment systems have been monitored and it appears they undergo a change in growth activity in wastewater treatment systems. Acinetobacter calcoaceticus grown in LB medium had a more substantial and faster increase in precursor 16S rRNA levels vs the increase in total 16S rRNA levels in exponential growth. Precursor 16S rRNa levels of Acinetobacter spp. increased transiently when activated sludge was mixed with influent wastewater in full- and lab-scale wastewater treatment systems.
