Expression of the nifA gene of Herbaspirillum seropedicae: role of the NtrC and nifA binding sites and of the -24/-12 promoter element

Expression of the nifA gene of Herbaspirillum seopedicae indicates that nifA transcription is activated by either NifA or NtrC proteins in association with sigma(sup)N factor. Data suggest that G residues at positions -26 and -9 and the region from -10 to +10 constitute the active nifA promoter.
