Acquisition of the rfb-gnd cluster in evolution of Escherichia coli O55 and O157

Results demonstrate that Escherichia coli O55 and O157 experience an antigenic shift and transform into pathogenic types via cotransfer and recombination processes involving rfb and gnd loci from heterologous bacterial source.
