Abstract

Beauty brand LUMENE is launching its latest skin care innovation - Nordic Hydra Birch Dew Jelly - in equally innovative sustainable packaging. LUMENE chose Eastman Cristal One E Renew, a recyclable resin with molecularly recycled content that is specifically designed for extrusion blow moulding (EBM). Cristal One E is Eastman's latest addition to its Cristal One portfolio, giving brands the brilliance and lustre of glass with rigid, thick-wall construction for EBM that is not typically achievable with conventional recycled resins. LUMENE worked with REBHAN to bring the first Cristal One E Renew packaging to market. A leading moulder of luxury packaging and expert in EBM, REBHAN is a long-standing innovation partner with Eastman. LUMENE and REBHAN selected Cristal One E Renew to maximize the sustainability profile of the Nordic Hydra Birch Dew Jelly's cleverly designed bottles, which feature a vibrant blue gradient decoration. It was important that the packaging enhance the unique formulation of the serum-in-moisturizer, which is based on a potent combination of organic Nordic birch sap, triple hyaluronic acid and new innovative moisture spheres to quench and deeply hydrate skin. The result is a luxurious, thick-walled EBM bottle with both 50% certified recycled content and easy recyclability, a revolutionary feat for sustainable resins. REBHAN's collaboration with Eastman enables it to provide more sustainable options to its EBM customers. With Cristal One E Renew, REBHAN can include recyclable materials as part of the Glass Polymer line of EBM packaging while maintaining its reputation for quality and performance. Both Cristal One E and Cristal One E Renew are compatible with the PET recycling stream and are endorsed by the Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR) and the European PET Bottle Platform as Resin Identification Code 1 (RIC1). Using this material for beauty packaging enables plastics recycling and a circular economy. Cristal One E, the newest grade in the Eastman Cristal One portfolio, is now available for extrusion blow moulded packaging for the cosmetics and personal care market. It gives brands the freedom to create iconic shapes, sharp-edged designs and unique packaging features that convey their brand image, all with an RIC1 designation.
