Characterization and analysis of the PikD regulatory factor in the pikromycin biosynthetic pathway of Streptomyces venezuelae

Amino acid sequence analysis of the PikD regulatory factor of Streptomyces venezuelae shows homology with other bacterial regulatory proteins. The PikD with a triphosphate-binding domain at the N-terminus and a DNA-binding motif at the C-terminus, is a positive regulator as demonstrated with its capacity to restore macrolide biosynthesis.
