GcpE is involved in the 2-C-methyl-D-Erythritol 4-phosphate pathway of isoprenoid biosynthesis in Escherichia coli

Results reveal that gcpE gene of Escherichia coli plays a role in the mevalonate-independent 2-C-methyl 4-phosphate pathway of isoprenoid biosynthesis as shown by the ability of genetically engineered E. coli and those in which the gcpE gene is deleted to utilize exogenous mevalonate.
