Abstract

Results reveal that gcpE gene of Escherichia coli plays a role in the mevalonate-independent 2-C-methyl 4-phosphate pathway of isoprenoid biosynthesis as shown by the ability of genetically engineered E. coli and those in which the gcpE gene is deleted to utilize exogenous mevalonate.
