Abstract
- In 2024, the market will witness a surge in beauty foods, prompting an expansion of grocery aisles to meet growing consumer demand. Retailers and brands are adopting a functional-forward approach to food innovation in response to this trend. Holland & Barrett has revamped its whole food range, emphasizing added benefits that support aspects like gut health, hair, skin, and nails. As part of this initiative, the retailer introduced a dedicated H&B Glow line. Noteworthy additions to the lineup comprise Nut Butter With Benefits, featuring Skinax, a clinically studied blend of vitamin C, grapeseed, melon, and zinc that support skin radiance and normal collagen formation. Trail Mix With Benefits serves as a source of copper, contributing to normal skin pigmentation. Another recent release, Raspberries in Dark Chocolate With Benefits, incorporates Mitoheal, a clinically studied blackcurrant and redcurrant extract supporting healthy skin, nails, and hair. These introductions mirror the anticipated shifts in trends expected by the retailer in 2024. Superoxide dismutase (SOD), a compound derived from melon extract, is anticipated to experience further rise in its usage in 2024. Collagen will be pivotal in this landscape, and an increasingly favoured option that combines collagen with hyaluronic acid, amino acids, and minerals like magnesium and calcium is bone broth. The conventional superfood is experiencing a surge as brands promote its collagen-rich advantages. Freja, a broth brand, provides powder and ready-to-drink versions of beef and chicken broth sourced from Norway. Kettle & Fire's Bone Broth, produced from bones of 100% grass-fed and humanely raised chicken and cattle, is also marketed for its benefits to hair, skin, and nails, the brand states. Functional foods rich in collagen are anticipated to expand into the breakfast aisle. Vogel's, a New Zealand brand, provides Collagen Granola with 7.5% collagen powder, supplying 3 g/serving. Additionally, Graci, based in Latvia, offers a range of functional cereals, such as Hi Beautiful Muesli, which incorporates turmeric, elderberries, and acerola for pro-collagen benefits. Collagen is predicted to take centre stage in protein beauty bars set to debut on high streets in 2024. Leading the way is Glow Beauty Fuel, a US brand developed by the co-founedr of Stila Cosmetics. It offers protein bars with bioactive collagen, vitamin C, hyaluronic acid, and hibiscus flower. Recently, the brand introduced its initial vegan beauty protein bar. Tropeaka has also unveiled its innovative Beauty Custard, a ready-to-eat product featuring 3 g/serving of sustainable marine collagen peptides, aimed at promoting skin elasticity and hydration.
