Stereoselective synthesis of delta-lactones from 5-oxoalkanals via one-pot sequential acetalization, Tishchenko reaction, and lactonization by cooperative catalysis of samarium ion and mercaptan

Research has been conducted on the 5-oxoalkanals. The conversion of these compounds to the delta-lactones has been carried out in a stereoselective manner via the synergetic catalysis of the samarium ion and mercaptan and the details are reported.
