Streptococcus pneumoniae capsule biosynthesis protein CpsB is a novel manganese-dependent phosphotyrosine-protein phosphatase

The capsule biosynthesis protein CpsB in Streptococcus pneumoniae is a member of the polymerase and histidinol phosphatase family of phosphoesterases. Data suggest that CpsB requires manganese for optimal activity and mutation of the histidine residues inactivates the enzyme.
