Childhood post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis as a risk factor for chronic renal disease in later life

By studying a group of Australian Aboriginal children who had been diagnosed with post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis (PSGN), it was found that this disease is a risk factor for albuminuria and haematuria later on in life. Tests were performed by measuring the ratio of albumin to creatinine in the urnie, which is a sensitive early marker of kidney damage.
